The Indian Army personnel on the 53rd anniversary of ‘Vijay Diwas’ exchanged sweets with Bangladesh forces at Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP).

Senior Army officers of India and Bangladesh were present at the Agartala-Akhaura (Bangladesh) check post during the exchange of sweets between the two-armed forces.

“This tradition shall be a hallmark in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations,” the official said.

On the occasion, the Army and various other organisations on Monday organised a series of events in Tripura.

Earlier on Monday, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Red Shield Division commander and other senior officials from the Army paid their rich and heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers at the iconic Albert Ekka War Memorial on the outskirts of Agartala.

The Bangladesh Assistant High Commissions (AHC) in Guwahati and Agartala celebrated the 53rd anniversary of ‘Vijay Diwas’ on Monday in a very low-key manner.

Sources said that the officials of the AHCs in Guwahati and Agartala only attended the close door celebration and no guest was invited to the programme this year.

After the breach of security at the Bangladesh AHC office in Agartala on December 2, the mission suspended all visa and consular services for an indefinite period.

The breach of security at the Bangladesh AHC reportedly took place during a protest by an organisation against the atrocities on the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

West Tripura District Superintendent of Police suspended three Sub-Inspectors -- Dilu Jamatia, Debabrata Sinha, and Joynal Hossain -- and Assistant Commandant (a DSP rank officer) Kanti Nath Ghosh was withdrawn from his posting due to their negligence of duty during the December 2 protests against the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh.

The Tripura government also ordered an enquiry into the December 2 incident and the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Southern Range, will conduct the probe.

In view of the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh and the arrest of ISKCON preacher Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh, various organisations have been holding a series of protests, demonstrations and rallies in different states of the northeast region almost daily.

Various northeastern state governments, the Army and other organisations on Monday celebrated the 53rd anniversary of 'Vijay Diwas' with wreath-laying ceremonies and other events organised at the war memorials and other places.

In Mizoram, joining the nationwide observation of India’s victory in the India-Pakistan War of 1971, the state observed the Vijay Diwas at the War Memorial at Treasury Square in Aizawl.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati led the floral tributes to pay homage and respect to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Home Minister K. Sapdanga, Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga (retd), and many other Army and civil officials followed the Governor in paying tribute to the fallen soldiers by laying wreaths at the memorial.

In Manipur, the main function of the Vijay Diwas was held at the 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall, Imphal. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Forest Minister Biswajit Singh and officials paid floral tribute to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the 1971 war.

The day was also celebrated in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and other parts of northeast India.
