Indian Army hosts TATA Steel Kolkata 25 km - Vijay Diwas Cup to honor 1971 war heroes

The Indian Army’s Eastern Command is conducting the “TATA Steel Kolkata 25 Km - Vijay Diwas Cup” on December 15. “This exclusive event, organized as part of the prestigious TATA Steel Kolkata Marathon, will honour the unparalleled sacrifices and valour of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1971 War,” the Indian army said.

The “TATA Steel Kolkata 25 Km - Vijay Diwas Cup” is an extraordinary tribute featuring 10 teams from the Indian Army and five teams each from the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. Each team comprising three runners will compete over the 25 km route. This unique event not only adds to the grandeur of Vijay Diwas 2024 celebrations but also provides a platform to the Armed Forces to showcase their fighting spirit and endurance alongside professional marathon runners," a statement said. The marathon is organized every year as part of the Vijay Diwas celebrations.

The TATA Steel Kolkata 25 Km- Vijay Diwas Cup aims to foster greater visibility and appreciation for the Vijay Diwas celebrations, reflecting the bravery, commitment, and camaraderie of our Armed Forces, a statement said.


The marathon is organized to "honour our heroes and celebrating the exceptional victory of 1971 with this inspiring run."

The Indian army's Eastern Command organized a curtain raiser for Vijay Diwas today to commemorate India's historic victory, which was celebrated for liberation of Bangladesh.

Vijay Diwas celebrations will include a series of activities to honour the indomitable spirit of the 1971 War heroes.
