Indian Army bets on hire-to-retire platform ZingHR to automate HR processes

"We have the same, if not greater, HR pain points as any other big employer in the country and they need to be addressed swiftly and efficiently,” said Lt. Gen. B K Repswal, Commandant ASC Centre & College.

To streamline and automate all the HR processes in the army, Army Training Command has signed an MoU with HR Tech firm ZingHR. As part of the engagement, the start-up will do a proof-of-concept (POC) to consolidate different processes into a uniform interface to provide a seamless experience across the Indian Army.

The company has initiated a deep study to automate all the HR processes in the army and will be demonstrating a Proof of Concept (POC) to establish the viability & feasibility of the transition, said a senior executive.

With over a million active personnel and even more reserve personnel & ex-servicemen, the Indian Army’s HR function spans the entire length and breadth of the country.

"We have the same, if not greater, HR pain points as any other big employer in the country and they need to be addressed swiftly and efficiently,” said Lt. Gen. B K Repswal, Commandant ASC Centre & College.

According to the Mumbai-headquartered start-up, the POC will assist the army in achieving higher levels of efficiency, data-driven decision-making, and enhanced transparency and security. The POC — 'Automation & Centralisation of Digital Processes of HRM of The Indian Army' — is expected to be completed within three to four weeks.

“The scale of employment and extent of HR operations that the Indian Army undertakes is enormous. Tech-enabled and automated HR systems will streamline their processes and bring speed, efficiency and compliance to recruitment and people management," said Prasad Rajappan, CEO and Founder of ZingHR.

ZingHR, which is backed by Tata Capital Growth Fund and was part of the June 2014 batch of Microsoft Accelerator, claims to leverage blockchain technology to aid in data storage and ensure military-grade data protection.

According to Vivek Tikoo, director co-founder and ZingHR, like any organisation, the army is looking for technology stacks that have the ability and the proven consistency for delivering outcomes. "They are not only wanting to drive just experience but experience linked with impact at the workplace," he said.
