India & Vietnam sign a Joint Vision Statement on defence cooperation
Boosting ties, Defence Ministers of India and Vietnam on Monday signed a Joint Vision Statement on defence cooperation for 2015-2020.

NEW DELHI: Boosting ties, India and Vietnam on Monday signed a Joint Vision Statement on defence cooperation for 2015-2020. The statement was signed by the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and the Vietnamese Minister for National Defence at the end of the delegation level talks in New Delhi.
An MoU on cooperation between the coast guards of the two countries was also signed in the presence of the two Defence Ministers. The Vietnamese Defence Minister is on a 3-day official visit to the country at the invitation of Parrikar.
At the delegation level talks, the two sides discussed wide ranging issues concerning defence cooperation, including cooperation in the area of maritime security.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to further enhancing the ongoing defence engagements between the two sides for mutual benefit.
Meanwhile, German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen is also on a three-day visit to India during which she will seek to deepen bilateral ties, besides focussing on regional and international security and defence issues.
During the first leg of her trip, Leyen will hold bilateral talks with her counterpart Manohar Parrikar.
She will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and meet Deputy Congress Leader in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma.
The Minister will also visit the Army Research and Referral Hospital, the flagship medical unit of the Armed Forces Medical Services.
She will also visit the Western Naval Command in Mumbai and hold talks with Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Vice Admiral S P Singh Cheema, and tour the Indian Navy ship INS Mumbai.
