India moves counter-drone security beyond military sites with Rs 155 crore orders for mobile patrol vehicles
Indrajaal Autonomous Defense Systems and Sigma Advanced Systems have announced government orders worth approximately Rs 155 crore for the Indrajaal Ranger mobile counter-drone platform. The orders include Rs 145 crore for border-security deploymen...

The orders include a Rs 145 crore contract awarded to the Indrajaal-Sigma consortium for border-security deployment and a separate order of around Rs 10 crore from an urban police force for VVIP protection and urban security, the companies said on Monday.
The deployments mark an expansion of counter-drone operations beyond the protection of fixed military and strategic installations to mobile security requirements, including border areas, VVIP routes and urban environments.
The Indrajaal Ranger is designed as a mobile Counter-UAS (counter-unmanned aircraft systems) platform that can detect, track, identify and counter drones while on the move. According to the companies, the system has been evaluated by the government and selected by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The platform combines sensors, artificial intelligence, sensor fusion, command and control and countermeasures. Its stated capabilities include taking control of certain rogue drones for recovery and analysis, establishing electronic exclusion zones and physically intercepting drones when electronic countermeasures are inadequate.
The border deployment is intended to address threats including drones used for cross-border movement of narcotics, weapons and surveillance. The urban deployment is expected to cover requirements such as VVIP security, public events, airports and critical infrastructure.
Kiran Raju Penumacha, Founder & CEO, Indrajaal Autonomous Defense Systems, said, "Ukraine demonstrated what drones can do in war. What we are now witnessing globally is that the drone threat extends well beyond the battlefield. Borders, airports, cities, public events, critical infrastructure and VVIP movements all require continuous protection of low-altitude airspace. Counter-UAS must therefore become part of a nation's everyday security infrastructure. The Indrajaal Ranger™ was designed around this reality, enabling security forces to take autonomous counter-drone capability wherever the threat moves."
Sunil Kalidindi, CEO, Sigma Advanced Systems, said, "This programme showcases the strength of India's defence manufacturing ecosystem, where advanced indigenous technologies can be developed, manufactured and delivered at operational scale. This milestone demonstrates Sigma’s capabilities and underscores our strategic partnership with Indrajaal in strengthening India's border and urban security with a critical next-generation capability."
The companies said the deployments reflect a broader shift in counter-drone requirements, as unmanned aircraft are increasingly being treated as a security concern not limited to conventional military operations.
The Ranger is being positioned as a mobile alternative to fixed-site counter-drone systems, allowing security agencies to deploy the capability along changing border points, moving convoys and temporary high-security zones.
