MIHAN: India and France are looking at further cooperation in the development of submarines, French defence minister Florence Parly said on Friday after meeting her Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman.

“We discussed cooperation in the submarine field,” Parly said on the sidelines of the foundation laying ceremony of Dassault Reliance Aerospace Ltd’s manufacturing facility here. Mazagon Docks Ltd, through technology transfer from French defence firm Naval Group, is making stealth Scorpene-class submarines. “The first Scorpene submarine will be launched in a few days,” Parly said.

This means submarine Kalvari could be commissioned into the navy soon.
