NEW DELHI: India is hosting 25 Bangladesh Army officers and their spouses in an unique week long visit on specially designated flight for the first time ever in the history of two neighbours.

The High Commission of India in Dhaka stated this is a “significant milestone” in the bilateral relations and it comes in continuation of high level of defence cooperation between the armed forces.

The visit began on Nov 26 in the 'most befitting' manner as two Indian Air Force aircraft airlifted the entire delegation from Dhaka to New Delhi.

The delegation will travel in the specially designated Indian Air Force aircraft throughout the tour that will end in Dhaka on Dec 2.

This visit is aimed at “enhancing people to people contact in the background of our enriched common cultural heritage”.

The delegation will visit Delhi, Agra, Kolkata and Churulia – the birth place of Bangladesh’s National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The visit was suggested by Bangladesh Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed during discussions held with his Indian counterpart on his first visit abroad after taking over the charge this June. The Indian government promptly agreed to his idea.
