Israel executes a strategic strike on Hezbollah leader Nasrallah

Israel has conducted extensive airstrikes against Hezbollah positions in eastern and southern Lebanon, claiming to have struck over 140 sites associated with the militant group. The strikes have reportedly resulted in the destruction of residential buildings, sending large plumes of smoke into the sky.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) asserted that their offensive led to the deaths of several Hezbollah commanders, including the group's leader, Hassan Nasrallah. Hezbollah later confirmed Nasrallah's death, marking a significant blow to the organisation. Additionally, Iran reported the death of Abbas Nilforushan, a deputy commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, who was also killed in the strikes.

In a statement, the Israeli Air Force announced, “The IDF continues to attack terrorist targets of Hezbollah in Lebanese territory,” sharing videos that captured the explosions and devastation across various targets in Lebanon.

The operation aimed at eliminating Nasrallah was codenamed “New Order,” reflecting its strategic significance to Israeli military objectives. Footage released by the Israeli Air Force displayed the command centre, where the chief of the General Staff oversaw the operation.

Hezbollah, which has long been a formidable adversary to Israel, vowed to continue its "holy war" against what it describes as the enemy and pledged support for Palestine.

This incident marks a pivotal moment, as Nasrallah has been a central figure in Lebanese and regional politics, having led Hezbollah for over thirty years. The current week has emerged as one of the deadliest for Lebanon since the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, with reports indicating that Israeli airstrikes have claimed the lives of more than 700 people, including at least 150 women and children.
