PUDUCHERRY: The Coast Guard's hovercraft port being set up in the Union Territory would be a "milestone" in availability of facilities of maritime defence establishments, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said here today

The facility would also berth two modern hovercraft and help fishermen of the union territory, he said.

The CM was speaking after laying the foundation of the Rs 27-crore hovercraft port project of the Coast Guard in neighbouring coastal village of Veerampattinam.

Deputy Inspector General S C Tyagi, who is commander of the Coast Guard Headquarters in Union Territory of Puducherry, highlighted the features of the project and pointed out that it would contribute a lot to augmenting the station`s capability of search and rescue operations.
