Home Ministry clarifies about troop deployment in J-K

NEW DELHI: A day after reports of additional troops deployment led to panic and speculations on Article 35A in Jammu and Kashmir, the union home ministry sources clarified that only 100 companies had been ordered for deployment, last week and no additional forces are being moved.

"About 100 companies are in the process of reaching their destinations. This has apparently led to speculations of induction of additional forces," a home ministry official explained.

There are over 1 lakh paramilitary forces deployed in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials sources said the deployment of forces was to strengthen counter insurgency grid and security of ongoing Amarnath Yatra.


"Based on the assessment of internal security situation, training requirements, the need for paramilitary troops to be rotated for rest and recuperation, induction and de-induction of central forces is a continuous and dynamic process," the official explained.

According to MHA officials the security has been heightened in the valley ahead of the upcoming independence day celebration. However, MHA sources said the details of security deployment in any theatre is not discussed in the public.

"It has never been the practice to discuss in public domain the details of deployment and movement of para military forces deployed in a particular theatre," they added.
