India has scheduled a major naval exercise in the Arabian Sea in the coming weeks near Pakistan's coast line.

Three dozen warships and submarines as well as Indian Air Force aircraft are likely to take part. The Arabian Sea is Pakistan's main sea trading route. Intelligence and defence officials said a show of naval strength in this area can be a crucial part of India's message to Pakistan.

India's Rs 59,000 crore agreement to buy Fighter jets

India has just signed a Rs 59,000 crore (euro 7.87 billion) deal with France to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets. This is a massive investment for India - a first in 20 years, and is specifically designed to help in against Pakistan's air strike capability.

Assault rifles

India re-launched on Tuesday its global hunt for new-generation assault rifles after similar attempts over the last decade failed due to unrealistic technical requirements and whiff of corruption, interspersed by debates on whether the gun should "kill" or merely "wound" adversaries.

The Army is looking to induct 65,000 rifles in the first go, with another 1,20,000 to be manufactured in India.

This, of course, would be just the beginning for the 12-lakh strong Army, with the overall programme cost slated to ultimately cross the $1 billion-mark.

Restructuring Air Force capabilities to prepare for Chinese aggression

Tensions aren't only high with Pakistan, but also China.

The IAF "is currently in the middle of tweaking its ORBAT (Order of Battle)", SwarajyaMag reported, to strengthen our response along the China border.

This includes placing squadrons of India's best fighter jets, the Sukhoi-30 MKI at air forces bases near China
