Gurdaspur attack: Top security officials fear more terror attempts soon
NEW DELHI: Top security officials fear that more terrorists may have crossed over the international border from Pakistan and they may attempt to strike soon. The officials see uncanny similarities between the Gurudaspur attack and attacks in Jammu area in May.

Five explosives spotted on the main railway track are suspected to be the handiwork of a different set of terrorists who spilt up after crossing over. “The same pattern is being repeated.

They infiltrate at night, hijack a vehicle and then attack a police station. Now we have to very careful about chapter two, like in May in Samba and Kathua when they divided into two groups. There was a 24-hours gap before the second group attempted an attack,” a top security forces official told ET.

As a precautionary measure, all military schools in the area have been asked to remain closed for a day and a high alert has been sounded at security installations. While the Punjab attack bears a striking resemblance to a series of strikes that have taken place in the Jammu area, the big question is how many militants have crossed over.

“All the five bombs of the railway track are elaborately wired in an IED kind of an arrangement. They are still to be neutralised and are of a highly complex mechanism. We suspect this has been done by a different group as it is well north of the police station,” a top official told ET.

The pattern of attacks clearly point to a Pakistan trained module working in the Jammu area. “Normally they come in larger groups. While three have been accounted for, there may be more on the loose,” the official said.
