Gurdaspur attack: Technical scrutiny of GPS devices traces coordinates as Shahpur-Sahiwal Road in Pakistan
NEW DELHI: Technical and forensic investigations into the terrorist attack on Dinanagar police station in Gurdaspur have given further proofs of Pakistan's involvement in the attack. India was set to present Pakistan with these evidences from the July 27 attack during the NSA talks which were cancelled.

One of the two GPS sets manufactured by Etrex Vista H Gramin and found on the slain terrorists had the coordinates as Shahpur-Sahiwal Road, near Sargoda, in Pakistan. NTRO experts believe that the GPS sets were manufactured either in Taiwan or the US.

They believe the sets were purchased from United Kingdom. India has now sought the help of the US government to identify the 'ownership chain' of the two sets, an official said.

The GPS coordinates also showed that the three terrorist entered India after crossing Ravi near Tash, giving further proof that they came from Pakistan. In the first GPS set, there were 12 locations which were fed on July 21 also indicating the route taken by militants from Ravi to the place where explosives were planted on the railway track.

Three AK -56 rifles found on the terrorists were made in China, CFSL results showed. The forensic results also said that the cartridges were manufactured in China, Russia, Ukraine and Czechoslovakia. Similarly, the rocket launcher was manufactured in Yugoslavia.

Shoes of the terrorists were 'cheetah' brand, not available in India but easily available in Pakistan. The shoe marking in two pairs were scratched and inked to conceal the brand name, said an official adding that one of the gloves found on the dead terrorists carried the tag, 'Made in Pakistan.' The grenades were also not made in India.

A fortuitous right turn taken by the three terrorists inside the Dinanagar police compound towards the near-empty police barracks rather than a bustling residential police complex on the left marked the attack in Gurdaspur on Monday.

As did the death of SP Baljit Singh around noon that ratcheted the encounter to a kill all operation, and the two light machine guns (LMGs) subsequently fitted on an adjoining hospital even as patients and doctors ran for cover in the crossfire during the 10-hour-long Punjab Police operation.

Here we take a look at the scene where the encounter took place:
