Governor Vohra for enhancing compensation for Field Firing Ranges in Jammu and Kashmir
JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has written a letter to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and requested him to enhance the compensation rates payable to persons in the state who are affected by field firing and artillery practices.

"In his letter the Governor requested the Defence minister to enhance the compensation rates payable to the persons in Jammu and Kashmir who are affected by the field firing and artillery practices," an official spokesman said.

He said that the Governor pointed out that the land owners have been complaining about the poor rates of compensation and this also raises additional problems when the existing field firing ranges have to be re-notified, for example the Hiranagar Field Firing Range.

The Governor has pointed out that the rates of compensation were fixed 28 years ago, he said.
