Germany won't shy away if Ukraine ground troops called for, ministry says

Germany will not shy away from contributing ground troops in Ukraine if the framework for such a move is given, a spokesperson for the German defence ministry said on Monday, ahead of emergency talks in Paris on European security.

"If the framework is given, Germany will not shy away," the spokesperson told a press conference, responding to a question about the possibility of German ground troops in Ukraine.

However, it was too soon to talk about Germany's exact contribution, the spokesperson added.


A German government spokesperson said Berlin expects no concrete results from the France-hosted summit, which was organised after U.S. officials suggested Europe would have no role in any talks on ending the conflict.
