4 policemen, 2 militants killed in Kashmir valley

While two policemen died on the spot, two others succumbed to injuries in a hospital.

SRINAGAR: Four policemen and two militants, including Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Altaf Ahmad Dar, were killed in two separate incidents in Shopian and Anantnag districts of south Kashmir on Wednesday. Dar was killed along with another militant in an encounter at Muniwar village in Anantnag.

Four policemen were killed at Bongam village in Shopian in the afternoon when Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and Jaish-e -Muhammad militants attacked a deputy superintendent of police’s escort party .

The incidents took place even as northern army commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh is on a two-day visit to the valley.


The policemen who succumbed to injuries were identified as constables Javed Ahmad Bhat of Srinagar, Mohammad Iqbal Mir and Ishfaq Ahmad Mir of Baramulla, and SPO Adil Manzoor Bhat of Shopian.

“In a terror strike we lost four boys in Shopian. Our tribute to the brave hearts,” J&K Police posted on Twitter.
