Convoy of three vehicle which was carrying police commandos to the Tengnoupal district headquarters from Moreh was attacked.

GUWAHATI: At least four policemen were killed and nine other were injured after militants ambushed police convoy in two separate incidents in Manipur on Thursday.

One incident took place in newly created Tengnoupal district, the second incident took place at Thoubal district of the state.

Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) L. M. Khaute confirmed the incident and said that police and other security agencies have started operations against the militants.

A senior police official told ET, “Convoy of three vehicle which was carrying police commandos to the Tengnoupal district headquarters from Moreh was attacked with sophisticated weapons. Two Head Constables of the police were killed and nine others were injuring during the incident.”

In another incident in Thoubal district, the militants targeted the police convoy. One Havilder of Manipur police was killed during this incident.

Police said that the area is the stronghold on ceasefire militant outfit, NSCN IM. Manipur Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi Singh however went ahead with the scheduled district inauguration programme held in Tegnoupal and condemned the incident.
