A firing incident occurred inside the 48 RR camp of the Indian army on Thursday in the frontier district of Rajouri in Jammu division in which army personnel are reported to have been injured.

Army officials said that 'an unfortunate internal incident' happened within the camp and no 'terrorist attack has occurred.'

"On Oct 05, one officer was injured in a likely grenade accident at a post in Rajouri sector. Officer evacuated and stable post initial treatment. Further investigation of the incident in progress," the 16 Corps Command that looks over the area posted on social media.

The army and concerned police officials remained tight-lipped about the nature of the incident. "You should talk to the Army," a senior police official in Rajouri told ET.

The camp is located in Thana Mandi area of Rajouri, a district along the Line of Control in the Jammu division, which is also part of the pir panchal region of the Jammu division. The forests of the Pir Panchal mountains dividing Jammu division from Kashmir have witnessed heightened militant activity over the last year resulting in high casualty operations for the armed forces. The armed forces have conducted several high-tech anti-militancy operations in the area.

Last month, Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande had visited forward areas along the LoC in Rajouri sector of J&K and reviewed operational preparedness and security situation. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, northern command Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi along with other senior officers had briefed him about the operational preparedness of the forces.
