One terrorist killed in encounter during anti-terrorist operation in J&K's Baramulla

Acting on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in Rampora Sopore area of Baramulla, a joint anti-terrorist operation was launched by Police and security forces. During the search operation, an exchange of fire took place. Further details shall follow, said Kashmir Zone Police.

The encounter has resulted in one terrorist being neutralised by the security forces. "Search Operation is in progress," said Chinar Corps.

Previously, two infiltrators were killed on Friday in an overnight encounter with security forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district in northern Kashmir, said officials.

The security forces had received a specific input on Thursday evening regarding the movement of infiltrators in Panipora village of Sopore, following which the army, J&K Police and Central Reserve Police Force launched a joint cordon and search operation in the area, they said.

The inputs received by the army suggested that the duo was operating in northern Kashmir for the past few days. “Their death is a big success for security forces. We have launched proactive operations recently and we have had some big successes,” said Brigadier Mohan. “Indian Army is committed for peace and progress in the Valley and will continue its efforts in this direction.”

The deputy inspector general of J&K Police in north Kashmir, Maqsood-ul-Zaman, said that the preliminary probe suggested that the duo had freshly infiltrated from across the border. Over the past few weeks J&K has reported a string of attacks and encounters including targeted killings and a blast in Srinagar.

Police and army officials maintain that “highly trained foreign intruders” remain a challenge, even as the number of local militants active is at an all-time low.
