The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a salvo launch of two Pralay missiles in quick succession from the same launcher off the coast of Odisha at around 10:30 hrs on December 31, 2025. The flight test, carried out as part of user evaluation trials, saw both missiles follow the intended trajectory, meeting all flight objectives as confirmed by tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur. Terminal events were verified by telemetry systems installed on ships near the impact points.

Pralay missile capabilities

Pralay is an indigenously developed solid-propellant quasi-ballistic missile featuring advanced guidance and navigation systems to ensure high precision. The missile is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads and striking various targets.

Development and collaboration

The missile was developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, in collaboration with multiple laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research and Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), and the Integrated Test Range. Development-cum-production partners Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited integrated the systems for the tests, with additional support from Indian industries.

Officials and industry witness tests

The salvo launch was witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, and industry partners involved in production and development.

Reactions from defence leadership

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the armed forces, DPSUs, and industry partners on the successful missile launches. He stated that the salvo launch demonstrated the reliability of the Pralay missile. Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, also congratulated the teams, highlighting that the achievement reflects the system’s imminent readiness for induction with users.
