An Army Major, who has been dismissed by the President using special powers, has approached the principal bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal seeking relief.

The Major, who faced an inquiry for alleged possession of confidential information and being in touch with a suspected foreign intelligence operative, was terminated from service on September 15, invoking section 18 of the Army Act, 1950.

It is believed that six more officers, including one of the rank of Brigadier, have been issued show cause notices on why administrative or disciplinary action should not be taken against them.

The petition, which is expected to come up for hearing this week, seeks a certified copy of the court of inquiry proceedings carried out against the Major. It also seeks forensic reports of all digital devices that were seized from him prior to the inquiry.

Posted with the strategic forces command, the Major faced an inquiry for allegedly storing classified information on his personal devices. He was also allegedly part of a Whatsapp group that consisted of other serving officers. The group was allegedly infiltrated by a foreign agent and classified information may have been leaked through that.
