DIPP to grant defence manufacturing licences: Home Ministry

Home Ministry has said in a notification that all applications for manufacturing defence items will be processed by the DIPP, until now it used to be done by the Home Ministry.

NEW DELHI: Government has made Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion ( DIPP) the authority to grant manufacturing licence for arms, ammunition and defence items.

Home Ministry has said in a notification that all applications for manufacturing defence items will be processed by the DIPP. Until now, the exercise was being carried out by the home ministry.

The secretary, DIPP has been delegated the powers to grant the licence by home ministry of Friday.

DIPP has also recently been asked to coordinate between different departments and ministries for the processing of FDI applications in sectors under approval route after the abolition of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB).

DIPP is mainly responsible for Formulation and implementation of FDI and industrial policy along with policies for intellectual property rights.
