SRINAGAR: J&K director general of police Dilbag Singh has supported Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat on setting up of deradicalisation centres. Answering a question at a news conference in Srinagar on Monday, Singh said deradicalisation centres would help youngsters who had gone astray.

“For some time, Pakistan and its agencies are trying to spread radicalisation in this area. Some of our youths, especially young minds, have been affected. If any such facility comes up in Kashmir, it would be a good sign,” said Singh, adding: “When police nab some people, they don’t seem to talk sense. Therefore, if some sensible arrangement is made, where good people from civil society and experts can deal with the subject and relevant aspects of religion and other things, it should be welcomed.”

Singh said security forces had killed three alleged Hizb-ul Mujahideen militants in Shopian district. Arrest of HM commander Syed Naveed along with two associates and suspended DSP Davinder Singh had ‘triggered panic’ among militants, forcing them to opt for frequent movement in the area, he said. “Naveed’s interrogation has led us to two hideouts and we have observed frequent movement of militants after his arrest with Davinder Singh.”
