KOLKATA: In a significant development that might boost the India-Bangladesh bilateral relations even further, Delhi police apprehended a suspected activist of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen from central Kolkata. The individual is believed to have alleged links with the terror attack at Dhaka’s Holey Artisan Bakery.

According to sources, a special team of the Delhi Police arrived in Kolkata on Saturday with the details of a Bangladeshi national, who was reportedly hiding in Burrabazar area, Kolkata’s central business district. In a joint operation with the Kolkata Police, the special team of investigators apprehended one, Mohammed Idris, from his hideout in Burrabazar and took him to Delhi on remand.

The sources further added that Idris had been staying in Hyderabad for the past one month and arrived at Kolkata recently to meet some people here. Investigators are making efforts to trace his accomplices here and join the dots, added sources. This is first arrest from Bengal of a person accused of Dhaka’s café attack.

The arrest appears to be a positive development before the visit of Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India.
