Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane today pointed out that the armed forces are developing capabilities to deal with drone threats both in kinetic and non-kinetic realm, days after a drone attack on an IAF Station in Jammu.

"We are developing capabilities to deal with that threat whether by state-sponsored or by states themselves," Gen Naravane said.

Commenting on the challenges faced by a new terror tactic, the General said that 'easy availability of drones definitely increases complexity and challenges'.

As reported by ET in October 2020, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria had also pointed out on the changing nature of warfare with the inclusion of drones. This was in the context of the high profile Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, which saw newer, leaner tactics.

ET had also reported that the initial investigations into the attack at the Jammu airbase suggest that an improvised low-cost rotary wing drone was used to drop explosive charges and it was not a high tech 'suicide drone', which could have caused massive damage.

No debris of the UAV that carried out the strike was found at the location and the explosive debris collected from the spot is being analysed.
