NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Home Affairs is planning to beef up the security infrastructure on the porous border with Pakistan and Bangladesh by installing Comprehensive Integrated Border Management Systems (CIBMS) at four more spots in Gujarat, Punjab, Tripura and south Bengal.

The decision to expand the CIBMS network follows near completion of two pilot projects, each spread slightly over five kilometres along International Border to check infiltration in the Jammu sector with the help of technological solutions. The third one is coming up in Dhubri district of Assam.

Through censors and radars, the CIBMS would detect and verify objects near the border before forwarding the information to a command centre for relaying it further to Quick Response Teams (QRTs) of the Border Security Force (BSF) for action.

“The two pilot projects are undergoing trails to test CIBMS’s real time ability to detect, verify and transmit suspicious movements or infiltration attempts on the IB. In the next stage we will put men and machine together to complete full integration of the CIBMS which should happen in less than a month’s time,” BSF Addition DG AK Sharma confirmed to the ET.

The BSF is manning borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, some portion with the assistance of Army and others on its own. While one project in Pahadpur area is being done with the help of Tata Power SED (Strategic Engineering Division), the other is coming up with the assistance of Slovenian firm Dat-con, which has formed a joint venture with Pune-based Ador Powertron, Sharma, who is looking after the technical aspects of the projects to fortify borders, said.
