Defence Ministry notifies sixth indigenisation list of 405 items including gears for light helicopters, tanks and light combat aircraft

The Defence Ministry has launched the sixth indigensition list containing 405 items which will only be sourced from Indian suppliers. The list includes components, sub-systems, sub-assemblies, spares, Line Replaceable Units and raw materials that will be indigenised and subsequently procured from Indian industry.

Of the 405 items, 16 belong to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), while 389 are associated with Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs).

Sixth Positive Indigenisation List covers key defence platforms

The items included in the latest PIL span a wide range of defence platforms and systems. These include air platforms such as the Advanced Light Helicopter, Light Utility Helicopter, Su-30MKI, Light Combat Aircraft and AL-31FP Engine.


The list also covers armoured platforms including the T-72, T-90 and BMP-II, along with warships and missile systems such as Konkurs-M, Invar and MRSAM.

Defence electronics featured in the list include radars, sonars, fire control systems and satellite communication systems. High Explosive Anti-Tank ammunition and other critical defence equipment have also been included.

Items to be offered for indigenous development

The detailed list is available on the SRIJAN Defence Portal, with each item carrying an indicative timeline for indigenisation.

Once successfully developed within India, the listed items will be procured from domestic industry. DPSUs and the ICG will pursue indigenisation through different routes, including the ‘Make’ procedure and in-house development.

The initiative will involve participation from the Indian industry, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

SRIJAN portal has offered over 33,000 defence items

The sixth PIL is part of the government's efforts to promote self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. It is expected to create additional opportunities for Indian industry, strengthen the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem, encourage investment and innovation, and reduce dependence on imports.

The DDP launched the SRIJAN Defence Portal in August 2020 as a dedicated platform for DPSUs and Service Headquarters (SHQs) to offer defence items to Indian industry, including MSMEs and start-ups, for indigenous development and production.

Up to June 2026, the portal had facilitated the offering of more than 33,000 defence items for indigenisation by DPSUs and SHQs. This includes 5,012 items notified through the first five Positive Indigenisation Lists.

Over 15,700 defence items successfully indigenised

More than 15,700 defence items have been successfully indigenised over the period, resulting in an estimated import substitution value of about Rs 9,000 crore during the last five years.

In addition, DPSUs placed procurement orders worth approximately Rs 10,000 crore, including in-house production, with domestic vendors up to March 2026.
