Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visits Tezpur airbase

GUWAHATI: To review the operational preparedness of security forces, Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Tezpur in Assam on Sunday

The visit is a part of defence minister's familiarisation trip.

The minister was received at Tezpur Airforce Station by Lt. Gen. Sarath Chand, Vice Chief of the Army Staff and Lt. Gen. Abhay Krishna GOC- in- C Eastern Command.


She interacted with Air Force personnel at the strategically important Eastern Airbase of Tezpur. She also reviewed the operational readiness of the airbase, seeing the Sukhoi fighter aircraft and other IAF assets at first-hand.

She also visited Gajraj Corps HQ, where she was briefed by Lt. Gen. AS Bedi, GOC Gajraj Corps on the overall security situation in Assam and the Kameng Sector of Arunachal Pradesh and the operational preparedness of the Corps.
