— ANI (@ANI) 1673354633000The go-ahead for the procurement of HELINA Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, launchers and associated support equipment will be a major capability booster for the ALH fleet of the Army. The helicopters are currently armed with machine guns and rockets and the missile will increase its offensive capability to support advancing ground formations.
The Army will also get indigenously developed Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) missile systems that have been designed by DRDO. The Infra Red (IR) homing missiles will be a vital addition for troops posted on the northern borders to take on incoming air threats like aircraft, helicopters and drones. Till now, India was dependent on imports from Russia for this category of weapon.
"In view of the recent developments along the northern borders there is a need to focus on effective air defence weapon systems which are man portable and can be deployed quickly in rugged terrain and maritime domain," defence ministry officials said.
For the Navy, approvals have been given for the procurement of Brahmos Launcher and Fire Control System. These systems will be integrated onboard the Shivalik class of stealth frigates as well as Next Generation Missile Vessels of the Indian Navy.
