Cop killed in encounter in Udhampur's forest area

Srinagar: A member of the J&K Police's special operation group was killed in an ongoing encounter in Udhampur district on Monday evening. Officials informed that the encounter broke out when a joint team of the Army, police and paramilitary launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Soan-Martha area of Majalta tehsil in Udhampur.

"On a precise input from JKP, contact established with terrorists at Village Soan, Majalta Udhampur. Joint team of SOG along with Army and CRPF on job," inspector general of police in Jammu informed on social media.

Later in the evening, the police informed that an SOG personal, who was grievously injured, succumbed to the injuries. However, no official statement was issued about the casualty till press time.


According to a PTI report, a terrorist was believed to be injured in the encounter.
