CISF to take over security of Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers
KOLKATA: A contingent of CISF personnel is in the process of taking over the security charge of the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) here which manufactures warships for the Indian Navy.

A few years ago the shipyard had requested the Ministry of Defence to deploy CISF at its shipbuilding facility after which it got approval recently, defence officials said.

A contingent of over 400 CISF commandos has begun to arrive in the city and they are in the process of taking over the security set-up of the strategically important shipyard, they said.

A contractual labourer of the defence PSU, who was arrested last year by the special task force of the Kolkata Police, was suspected to be an ISI agent.

One of the leading shipyards in India, GRSE is at present building 15 ships, including anti-submarine warfare corvettes and stealth frigates for the Indian Navy.
