Pramir Sarkar, a resident of West Bengal, was deployed outside the reactor building at Rawatbhata when the incident occurred at around 4.30 am, police said.
"It prima facie appears to be suicide by his INSAS rifle," Chittorgarh SP Dharmendra Singh said.

Police said Sarkar's colleagues rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshot, and found him lying on the floor with a bullet wound in his chest.
He was rushed to the Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
"The circumstances leading to the incident are being investigated," the SP said.
