'Chinese road building party entered India, but no standoff'

NEW DELHI: A Chinese road construction party had intruded a kilometre into Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tuting area for carrying out “track alignment” about a week ago.

Indian troops who were patrolling the area had confronted the construction party, which returned to the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the same day, while their equipment remains in India.

In relation to the incident, government officials in New Delhi privy to the matter said there is no face-off at the site. They explained that the incident took place on December 28 last year.


“An Indian patrol was on a regular reconnaissance visit and they observed few civilians undertaking track alignment activity in Tuting area (in Upper Siang district), approximately one km inside own territory.

The Chinese civilians returned to their own side of the border on the same day when asked to do so by Indian troops,” said an official.

“There are some unattended Chinese civil construction equipment remaining on the Indian side of the LAC,” added the official.
