A Member of Parliament in Central Asia of Kyrgyzstan Zhanarbek Akayev has alleged that a Chinese company mining coal in the country's Alay region is destroying glaciers.

According to the MP, he has already written to the prosecutor's office three times on this matter.

Akayev demanded immediate intervention by the authorities to stop the destruction of glaciers. He noted that the Prosecutor General's Office had already issued a warning to the Chinese investor, but it had had no effect.

Akayev has been vocal against Chinese investments in Kyrgyzstan.

Alay district borders China in the east and Tajikistan in the South.
