New Delhi: Chhattisgarh police on Friday said bodies of six Maoists were recovered after an ongoing exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists in the Abujhmad region of Narayanpur district.

A large cache of weapons, including AK-47 and SLR rifles, has been seized so far. "Based on intelligence inputs on Maoist presence, joint teams of security forces launched a search operation," Bastar police said in a statement.

The encounters, which began on the afternoon of July 18, are still ongoing. "Further details cannot be shared at this moment to ensure the safety of personnel involved," police added. A detailed report will follow after the operation concludes.
