Exposing cyber security flaws of a key department in the insurgency-hit state, a hacker who called himself Rummy Khan, defaced the website and pasted a Pakistani flag.
"The website was hacked because it was not updated with patches. We missed updating security patches as a result of which it happened, Chhattisgarh Infotech & Biotech Promotion Society (CHiPS) CEO Saurabh Kumar told PTI.
"However, there is nothing critical. It was all open information about the police department. We have not lost any crucial details," he said.
CHiPS is the nodal agency for implementation of the infotech and e-Governance projects in Chhattisgarh state.
It looks after the operation and maintenance of websites of all departments.
Around 18 websites, including that of the police department, were operational on a single server and therefore several websites were put down until maintenance work of the server is complete. It will be restored within a day or two, he said.
