Chandigarh on alert after air warning issued by Air Force Station

The Chandigarh administration on Friday sounded air raid sirens, warning people to stay indoors. An official message said, "An air warning has been received from the Air Force station of a possible attack. Sirens are being sounded. All are advised to remain indoors and away from balconies."

Chandigarh is the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana.

This alert comes as tensions rise between India and Pakistan following recent attacks and counter-attacks.



The Mohali administration in neighbouring Punjab also issued a warning. People living in sectors close to Chandigarh were asked to stay indoors and away from windows and glass panes.

"There is an alert in some areas of Chandigarh. We are advising Mohali residents in the bordering sectors to remain indoors and away from windows," said the message from Mohali officials.

This is the second time sirens have been heard in Chandigarh in two days. On Thursday night, India stopped fresh attempts by Pakistan to strike military bases with drones and missiles. These attacks were aimed at areas like Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur.

According to the Defence Ministry, Pakistan tried to target military sites in at least 15 cities, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.

These strikes by Pakistan came just a day after India launched Operation Sindoor, in which the Indian armed forces carried out precision missile attacks on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes were in response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April that killed 26 civilians.
