Centre to deploy 9 new battalions in Jammu and Kashmir: Rajnath Singh

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today assured the forces in Jammu and Kashmir of more reinforcements in days to come.

Addressing the media in Jammu, he said that Pakistan has been resorting to heavy shelling at the border. Taking cognisance of repeated shelling,
he assured to deploy 9 new battalions which will take stock on ground. Out of these 9 new battalions, 2 would be deployed in sensitive areas.


He stated that 2 women battalions will be raised from Jammu and kashmir, which would more teeth to anti-Pakistan operations. One battalion will be for Kashmir division and one battalion for Jammu division. This will provide direct employment to nearly 2000 women, stated Rajnath Singh.

Rajnath also assured of five new bullet-proof ambulances for the army in Jammu and kashmir.

Rajnath reiterated MHA's revisited scheme of giving Rs 5 lakhs for persons killed during Cross Border Firing & Ceasefire Violations. Changing the current procedure, he said now this amount of Rs 5 Lakhs will be directly credited to the account of Next of Kin and all conditions relating to fixed deposit have been removed.

Singh also asserted that the Centre will change the "face and fate" of Jammu and Kashmir.

He also added that the government has decided to give financial assistance of Rs 5.5 lakh per family for West Pakistan Refugees settled in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Replying to a question on bunker, the home minister replied that 14,460 new bunkers will be made. Out of these individual bunkeres will be more that the community bunkers.
