The Union Cabinet today gave ex post facto approval to a pact between India and Bahrain on combating international terrorism and drug trafficking.

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet today gave ex post facto approval to a pact between India and Bahrain on combating international terrorism and drug trafficking.

The agreement, signed last month, deals with cooperation in combating international terrorism, transnational organised crime and trafficking in illicit drugs, narcotic and psychotropic substances and precursors chemicals, a government statement said.

It will come into force from the date of exchange of the instruments of ratification, it said.

"The agreement aims to improve the effectiveness of both countries in the prevention, investigation, prosecution and suppression of crimes including crime relating to terrorism, transnational organised crime and drug trafficking.

"It will help establish framework for enhancing cooperation between the officials of intelligence and law-enforcement agencies of the two countries," the statement said.
