BSF shoots Pakistani intruder dead along International border in Jammu & Kashmir

A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel while attempting to cross into Indian territory along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday, officials said, adding that a protest is being lodged with Pakistan over the incident.

Officials said BSF troops spotted multiple intruders trying to sneak in between the Chandwan and Kothey border outposts in the Hiranagar sector around 4 pm. The group was challenged repeatedly and asked to stop, but ignored the warnings, prompting personnel at the forward posts to open fire.

One of the intruders sustained injuries and was taken into custody. He was first shifted to a local hospital and later referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Vijaypur for specialised treatment, but succumbed to his injuries.


The man’s identity and the motive behind his attempted infiltration are being investigated, officials said, adding that his body is likely to be repatriated to Pakistan.

In an official statement, the BSF said, “BSF troops observed suspicious movement wherein a Pak national was observed crossing the IB and approaching aggressively towards the border fence in district Kathua, Jammu. He was warned by alert troops but paid no heed. BSF troops sensing threat fired on his legs. Later on, he was taken into BSF custody. Protest being lodged with counterpart.”
