"At about 2.35 am, an incident of unprovoked firing in the Akhnoor area from across the border happened and which was befittingly responded by the BSF. One BSF personnel sustained injuries in Pakistani firing," said a BSF spokesperson.
BSF troops are maintaining high alert and strict surveillance along the International Border and Line of Control.
Ceasefire violations have been infrequent since India and Pakistan resumed their ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021. The last significant incident was last year when a BSF jawan lost his life in Ramgarh sector due to Pakistan Rangers' firing, marking the first fatality on the Indian side in over three years.
This recent ceasefire breach occurs just days before the first phase of the three-phase assembly elections set to begin on September 18, with subsequent phases on September 25 and October 1.
