In a statement, the Union home ministry said, "The Government of India has constituted a committee to monitor the current situation on the Indo-Bangladesh Border. The committee will maintain communication channels with their counterpart authorities in Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Indian citizens and people belonging to minority communities in Bangladesh."
According to the ministry, the committee will have IG, BSF Frontier HQ South Bengal; IG, BSF Frontier HQ Tripura; member (planning & development), Land Ports Authority of India and LPAI secretary as its members. Union minister Amit Shah said the committee was formed considering the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals, Hindus, and other minority communities living there.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged the interim government in Bangladesh to ensure that normalcy returns at the earliest. Modi urged Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who is currently heading the interim Bangladesh government, to ensure the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities. Several Hindu temples were allegedly attacked amid the protest and the students' movement later formed committees to protect the minority establishments.
The Ministry of External Affairs too on Thursday informed that officials were in touch with the post-Hasina administration to ensure the safety of the remaining officials in its missions and citizens who were scattered across Bangladesh.
