SRINAGAR: Pakistani troops today fired at a forward border post in North Kashmir killing a BSF jawan, an incident that came a day ahead of talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Russia.

In the second killing of a BSF jawan in Pakistani firing in the last four days, the constable identified as Krishna Kumar Dubey lost his life when Pakistani snipers opened fire at a post located in Nowgam area of Baramulla. Dubey hailed from Jharkhand,

Director General of BSF D K Pathak confirmed the incident but did not divulge further information.

Officials, however, said BSF personnel retaliated in which some casualities were reported on the other side of the Line of Control(LoC).

The firing occurred at around 3.30 PM when the jawan, posted in Karam post in Nowgam area of Baramulla sector, collapsed after being hit in his right eye by a bullet from across the border, the officials said. There was also an exchange of small arms fire in the evening

Tension has been brewing in this region ever since Pakistani troops resorted to firing killing a BSF jawan on July five. Indian and Pakistani troops have been exchanging fire since that day.
