Bengaluru-based Bevel Gears (India) is setting up a modern manufacturing facility at the defence and aerospace park near the international airport. The company will make complex bevel gears at the unit which it plans to commission next year.

The company, the gears of which are on the rover Pragyan in the Chandrayaan-3 mission, would invest Rs 25 crore on the proposed facility as it remains bullish on India’s space and defence sector. The new unit would add about 100 jobs, managing director Sulaiman Jamal said in a statement.

The company has been supplying critical hi-tech gears to Indian Defence entities for applications in jet planes, helicopters and other sensitive developmental projects. The Company has specialised in manufacture and supply of gear products with high-engineering content for industries, including in robotics and F2, F3 racing, apart from supplies to Defence, the statement added.

The gears supplied by the company are now in Moon. The heart of the lunar rover's mobility lies in the hands of high-precision gears as they roll unfazed within the rover on the Moon, Jamal said. Expressing gratitude to Isro for the opportunity to supply parts to the Moon mission, he said the rover's journey on the Moon resonated with the collective efforts of countless individuals who have worked tirelessly to make this mission a reality.

According to company’s advisor V Balasubramanian, Jamal is the only Indian industrialist who was invited to be on the Board of American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA), a world body for gear manufacturing industries.
