NEW DELHI: Bangladesh, creating history, has appointed a lady officer as a Major General in the Army.

Dr Susane Giti was recently appointed as a Major General in the Bangladesh Army adding yet another feather in the cap of the South Asian country where women empowerment has been priority for the government.

She became the first woman to get the rank promotion in the history of Bangladesh Army as well as Armed Forces Division. Maj Gen Giti is currently serving as head of Pathology Department of Armed Forces Medical College.


Maj Gen Dr Susane Giti obtained the MBBS degree from Rajshahi Medical College in 1985.

She joined the Bangladesh Army as a physician with the rank of captain in 1986. In 1996, she became the first woman to obtain FCPS degree in Hematology.

Dr Susane Giti also served as the expert pathologist for UN peacekeeping missions and several military hospitals.
