The station - Radio Sangam (88.8 FM) - has been established at Keri village and is billed as the first community radio station on the LoC. Officials said the initiative is intended to provide a credible platform for local communication, counter propaganda from across the border, and address civic and social concerns of residents in forward areas.
Given its strategic location, the broadcasts can also be heard across the LoC. The station was inaugurated by Rajouri Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma in the presence of civil society members, government officials and local residents.
"This station will promote social awareness and public participation, amplify local voices, and strengthen the link between the administration and border residents - while also countering propaganda from across the LoC," Sharma told reporters.
He said the platform would help "fight fake narratives" and promote "hyperlocal content and concerns".
"This will address the gap left by existing FM stations and help ensure the flow of information during challenging times. It also helps bridge the digital divide in areas where internet penetration is low," Sharma added.
