SRINAGAR: Army today paid tributes to Havildar Satnam Singh who was killed in a sniper firing by Pakistani troops in Machhil Sector along the Line of Control in Kashmir on Wednesday.

"Homage was paid to the valour and sacrifice of the late soldier in a solemn ceremony held at Badami Bagh Cantonment," an army official said.

Singh had sustained a gun shot wound due to "enemy sniping from across the LoC" while he was deployed at a forward post in Machhil sector.

The soldier was provided immediate first aid and evacuated from the post but succumbed to his injuries, he said.

Known for his high sense of duty and patriotism, Singh had also served earlier in the Rashtriya Rifles, the official said.

Singh, hailing from Amritsar in Punjab, is survived by wife Baljit Kaur and three children.
