SRINAGAR: Even as the the Line of Control in J&K continues to remain tense with continuous exchange of fire, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has stated that the mission of her party was to forge good relations with Pakistan and seek an end to border skirmishes.

Mufti said that 24 seats designated for constituencies of ‘J&K occupied by Pakistan in 1947 are vacant in the legislative assembly.’ “Till their nomination, we should constitute an advisory committee comprising members of both sides of Kashmir that will work for the promotion of tourism and other areas,” she said.

Meanwhile, the army on Tuesday, claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid in Gurez sector killing two militants. In another incident, one army personnel of 17 Infantry Brigade was killed in ceasefire violation in Naugam sector in Kupwara of north Kashmir. Another army man was wounded in shelling in Mendhar area of Poonch district of Jammu.

In a separate incident of fratricide, an army Major was shot dead by his subordinate after his phone was confiscated by the officer during a surprise check at a post in Uri area in Baramullah district of north Kashmir. Major Shikhar Thapa of 71 Armed Regiment was posted with 8 Rashtriya Rifles.
