Army jawan injured in militant attack in Shopian district of Kashmir dies
SRINAGAR: The jawan, who was injured in a militant attack in Shopian district of south Kashmir last evening, has succumbed to injuries at an Army hospital here, officials said today.

Anish T of Army's 62 Rashtriya Rifles unit succumbed at 92 Base Hospital here late last night, an army official said.

He said Anish was injured in firing by the militants when troops launched an operation in Imam Sahib Shopian, 52 km from here, last evening.

The official said the troops did not retaliate as the house where the militants were hiding was located in a densely populated area.

"We did not want any collateral damage in the operation and did not retaliate," he said.

Security forces started house-to-house searches soon after the firing but could not track down the militants.
