The Army on Sunday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Kupwara in northern Kashmir, officials said.

The Army officials said that the forces deployed along the LoC noticed suspicious movement. The infiltrators, on being challenged, opened fire, triggering an exchange of fire.

"When we returned the fire, two infiltrators were killed. Search operation is continuing in the area to ascertain whether there were any other members in this group," said the officials. The identity and affiliation of the two infiltrators killed in the operation are yet to be ascertained.

The Army has not issued any formal statement on this operation.

The infiltration bid was foiled a day after inspector general (IG) of BSF, Kashmir frontier, Ashok Yadav, told reporters that infiltration attempts tend to rise ahead of snowfall to exploit the narrowing window before harsh winter conditions set in.
